Subject: What is the 3D camera? - by: admin

OK so after a few different prototypes and not getting the result I was after I decided to go a different avenue and rather than manipulate the camera its self I decided that I wanted to attempt to build a 3D Anaglyph Camera Attachment instead. :-)

And so searching the web and researching other methods I came across the idea of using a slide viewer, the particular one I have purchase is a Pana-View Bi-Lens Slide Viewer found on eBay for around $15

All I did was:
1. cut the viewer in half, a little behind the slot for the slide.
2. cover the eye holes with the red and blue colored filters.

Now all that's left is for me to place my camera where the slide goes and take a photo.

Sounds simple, well.....

In theory it is, the idea is simply reversing the original intention of the device, but I am still finding that this isnt working 100% for me. It would seem that the 'ghosting' of the red and blue is a little too far apart, its alright for distant shots but close ups are pretty much a no go.

In addition because of the small eye holes, this requires a LOT of light therefor not so great for the purpose of ghost hunting nor will it work in night vision as the IR will drown out colour giving just a blurred image.

So I'm now going to try using this with still photography and using a flash for the time being. Here's a couple of photos Ive taken using the device so far:

It has been suggested that I might want to try using a wide angle lens on my camera to try and decrease the distance of the blue and red filter, as well Im wondering if it may be because i used a Pana-View device and so Im going to purchase another viewer and use the parts to build a larger version allowing for more light to get in and hopefully allowing for better photos.

After further research and taking the camera apart I decided that there was simply to much risk in modifying the camera and removing the IR Filter, unlike some cameras the filter it attached to the CCD Chip housing and removing it can cause damage. So I had to look into different cameras now I found one that already allowed for nightvision however it is approx twice the size of the original bullet camera. This means it will not fit in the headset so I now I needed to modify that, fortunately I had the idea that a microphone holder would do the trick but I now needed to find a way to attach it, with a little ingenuity I was able to put something together that works perfect (even if I do say so myself).

Anyway, here's the photos cant wait to get this out in the field:

I love it what a plan comes together...

Michael if I had the time to build one I would. I recently tested my Inductive Amplifier and there is a definite need to amp the output and MAYBE add a telescopic probe, but for now Ill be amping mine and seeing how that works out for me

The case I use is the PELICAN 1650 BLACK CASE I actually ordered mine on eBay for just under $200 with the foam inside.

Ralph, I'd like more details on the modifications Andy performs could you please email me or post in the Inductive Amp thread exactly what Andy did to modify your Probe as I'd like to see if I can modify my own in a similar fashion

Your absolutely right Shawn, I used to make these to order with no problems but the demand became very high and I simply exhausted the stock of my parts supplier. We are trying to get some more devices and we are even experimenting with other things so possible bring a new version forward. But this is something that we certainly wont have for a little while yet.

We are trying to get something suitable and affordable, this is the wall we keep hitting...
